Malta will be represented at the upcoming Athletics Under 20 European Championships in Jerusalem, Israel by two of its younger talents, Jeremy Zammit and Graham Pellegrini. They will be competing in the long jump and the 200m respectively.

Both established national records throughout the current season. Zammit jumped 7.84m at the Clemson Invite in South Carolina, representing his college, Auburn. Zammit is one of an elite group of local athletes who received an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship by the Maltese Olympic Committee. On the other hand, Pellegrini broke a long-standing 400m record at the recent GSSE, with a 46.83s timing. He also claimed the gold medal in the 200m at the GSSE. Both athletes qualified on their own merit, reaching the required qualification standards. The long jump qualifying round takes place on Monday, while the 200m heats commence on Tuesday.
