Athletics Malta has announced the publication of revised regulations for the Label Road races, recently approved by the council. The updated system, which builds on a new concept introduced in 2022, adds a new ‘Standard label’ for races lacking a valid International Course Measurement Certificate. From 2025, a valid international measurement certificate will be required for a race to qualify for a Bronze, Silver or Gold label.

The Athletics Malta Label is representative of high standards in event organisation, safety, participant experience, adherence to World Athletics Competition Rules, and support from public authorities. This system aims to enhance the local road running scene both technically and organisationally, improving overall enjoyment for all involved.

Athletics Malta hopes the new regulations will attract investment by maintaining high quality-control standards, making the Label a valuable marketing tool for sponsors, media, and government entities. The goal is to elevate the road running structure, encourage local organizers to improve, and potentially host World and European Athletics accredited events.

The application window for the 2025 road running calendar will be open from July 1 to August 10, 2024. Details of the meeting to finalize the calendar will be announced after the application period closes.
