Athletics Malta President Aldrin Cassar and Treasurer Darren Micallef held meetings in Lausanne with top officials from European Athletics following an invitation from the latter. They engaged in a two-day meeting alongside five other newly elected Association Presidents, where they received a comprehensive briefing on European Athletics’ structure, operations, different departments, communication channels, and collaborations with European associations.

During their visit, Cassar and Micallef also had one-on-one meetings with European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov. They discussed Malta’s specific needs, including a request for enhanced financial support to bring Malta’s limitation as a small, island nation. The two sides also explored avenues through which Malta could in return contribute to European athletics, such as offering support for athletes from Ukraine, who are currently unable to trian in their home coutnry, by hosting training camps on the island.

Additionally, the visit aimed to strengthen networking opportunities and foster improved relationships between Athletics Malta and European Athletics for mutual benefit and collaboration in the future.
