The 2019-2020 MAAA Road Running League kicked off at Maqluba on Saturday 19 October. The Men’s 5km Race produced some fast times with Dutch runner Lucas Neioboer (Evolve) clocking 14:55 to become the first athlete to dip below 15:00 minutes on this route.
Rik Foethals (Evolve) was second in 15:06 while Dillon Cassar (Raptorz) was the first Maltese home. His time of 15:15 was the fastest time ever by a Maltese runner.
The Women’s 5km Race was won by Pembroke runner Lisa Marie Bezzina in a time of 17:26. She preceded Mona Lisa Camilleri (AS Libertas) who crossed the line in 17:49 while Joelle Cortis (St Patrick’s) was a strong third in 18:10.
On the day, Evolve were the first Men’s Team while Pembroke Athleta were the first Women’s Team.
