MAAA is saddened by the news of former Team Malta athlete Gerald Degaetano who passed away suddenly this morning.
Gerald was one of Malta’s leading athletes especially in the 80s and 90s when he dominated the 5,000m and 10,000m distances. He represented Malta several times and also won medals in the Games of the small States of Europe.
Gerald also represented Malta in the 1991 Olympics in Tokyo, where he set National Records in the 5,000m and 10,000m distances.
More recently, Gerald was also a prePlay Ambassador and formed part of the Athletes’ Commission, both initiatives being Maltese Olympic Committee programmes.
The MAAA committee and its members send its condolences to his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Rest in peace.
