European Games Day 2 – Malta regains 9th place

Day 2 of the European Games saw some great performances by Team Malta athletes. Of note was the junior national record established by Bradley Mifsud in the Javelin with a throw of 62.67 metres. Young Rebecca FItz won her heat with a time of 16.37 while Rebecca Camilleri in the Long Jump came second with a Jump of 6.38, 3 cm shy of the national record and a seasonal best. Dario Mangion and Charlotte Wingfield both established personal bests in the 3000m (8.53.75) and 200m (24.32) respectively.

The last two events of the day saw the fantastic performances of the 4x400m relay teams establishing the best times of the year (Women – 3.47.93, Men – 3.20.54) and consolidating the 9th place in the European Games for Team Malta.

Well done to all Team Malta athletes.

Great show by Team Malta on Day 1 of the BAKU European Games

4x100mWRecords tumble at BAKU during the first day of the Athletics competition which saw Malta finish temporarily in 9th Place.

Marilyn Grech broke the National 400m hurdles record during the first track event of the Games with a time of 64.87 where she placed first in the first heat. Janet Richard clocked 50.06 in the 400m setting a Junior National Record in the process. Charlotte Wingfield ran 11.69 in the 100m, finishing second overall and also setting a new mark for the event. In the 300m Steeplechase MonaLisa Camilleri also set an new national record after running the distance in 11.28.28. Last, but not least, the brilliant performance by the ladies of the 4x100m who won their heat in style with a new national record of 46.24.

New personal bests were registered by Francesca Borg in the 800m (2.14.21), Andrew Grech in the 5000m (15.21.13) and Ian Paul Grech in the Long Jump (7.13).
