Athletics Malta’s sixth challenge meeting witnessed a number of strong performance by emerging young athletes.

Michael Debattista Segond registered an Under 20 and Under 18 record with the Pembroke youngster winning the 1500m race in 3:57.57, ahead of La Salle’s Julian Zarb who clocked 3:59.41. Another Under 18 record was recorded in the 200m sprint, with Thea Parnis Coleiro (Rush AC) setting a 24.96s timing, as she claimed second place behind Carla Scicluna (23.90s).

Parnis Coleiro was also second in the 100m race, behind Claire Azzopardi who produced another sub-12 performance (11.92s). For Żurrieq Wolves’ Mireya Bugeja, her 800m victory meant double joy, as her 2:13.82 timing meant not only an Under 18 record but also a qualifying time for the CSSE Games this Summer.

Challenge Meeting 7 will be held this coming weekend as athletes seek to complete their preparations for the National Championships and other international commitments ahead.
