Malta’s top medium and long-distance runners are set to compete at the European Running Championships 2025, which will take place in Brussels and Leuven, Belgium.
The national team, consisting of Simon Spiteri, Dillon Cassar, Luke Micallef, and Lisa Bezzina, will represent Malta across multiple race categories.

All four athletes have had a stellar start to the season, with outstanding results both locally and internationally.
Simon Spiteri has been in dominant form, winning both the National Road Running League and the 10K Championship, securing his place as one of Malta’s top endurance runners. Lisa Bezzina has won all the races in the National Road Running League, reinforcing her reputation as one of Malta’s most consistent and successful distance runners.
Dillon Cassar has also made headlines, delivering a historic performance at the Barcelona Half Marathon, finishing with an official time of 65:57. His 69th-place finish out of 30,000 runners marked the second-fastest half marathon time ever recorded by a Maltese athlete. Cassar also claimed first Maltese spot in the recent La Vallette Half Marathon as well as top spot in the 5k Road running championship.
Luke Micallef has impressed on the international stage, recently clocking 29:29 in the Internationaler Korschenbroicher Citylauf 10K in Germany.
A total of 343 athletes representing 45 Member Federations have entered the first edition of the European Running Championships which is comprised of a 10km, half marathon and marathon.
Star names of the championships will be Italy’s Nadia Battocletti who is seeking her fourth European title in the space of 10 months. European 10,000m champion Dominic Lobalu from Switzerland headlines the men’s 10km.
