Maltese athlete Simon Spiteri delivered a strong performance at the Balkan Athletics Marathon Championships held in Skopje (North Macedonia), completing the race in a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 8 seconds.
Competing against nearly 500 participants, Spiteri placed ninth overall in the Skopje Marathon, and secured a remarkable fifth place in the Balkan Championships, an outstanding result among elite runners from Central and Eastern Europe. The race was won by North Macedonian Dario Ivanovski in 02:14:50.
His achievement marks another milestone for Maltese athletics, showcasing dedication, discipline and national pride on the international stage.
Spiteri’s participation was supported by SportMalta and the Maltese Olympic Committee, whose backing continues to play a vital role in promoting local athletics talent.
Simon was accompanied in Skopje by long-distance coach Ivan Rozhnov.
