Isaac Bonnici and Thea Parnis Coleiro are heading to Belgrade to represent Malta at the 2025 Senior Balkan Athletics Championships.
Thea will compete in the 60m, while Isaac will race in the 800m, giving both athletes the opportunity to measure themselves against elite athletes from nations from Central and Eastern Europe.
Both athletes have already had an exceptional start to the year, with standout performances at the London Indoor Games held at Lee Valley in January. Competing against high-level sprinters, Parnis Coleiro secured second place in the 200m with a time of 24.91s, setting both Under 18 and Under 20 records. She also impressed in the 60m, completing the race in 7.77s.
On the other hand, Bonnici broke two records in the U20 and U23 categories, clocking an extraordinary 1:56.55 in the 800m and also delivering a solid performance in the 400m with a time of 51.80s. The Maltese athletes are accompanied in the Serbian capital by coach Matthew Micallef.
