Isaac Bonnici has broken a 32-year-old U20/U23 National Record in the 800m at the Open Challenge Meet 1, held at the Marsa Athletics Stadium. Bonnici clocked an impressive 1:52.4, surpassing the previous record dating back to 1993, set by Xandru Grech.
This remarkable achievement follows Bonnici’s strong performances at the 2025 Senior Balkan Athletics Championships, where he represented Malta in the same event. Earlier this year, at the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley, the Rush AC athlete also made headlines by breaking two records in the U20 and U23 categories. He completed the 800m (indoor) in a remarkable 1:56.55, while also posting a solid 51.80s in the 400m.
