Maltese sprinters Beppe Grillo and Thea Parnis will be representing Malta at the European Senior Indoor Championships, taking place from 6-9 March in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Both will compete in the 60m event, where they will take on some of Europe’s fastest sprinters.
Among the women, competitors include defending champion Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland and Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, who finished second at the last edition of the championships in 2023. Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu is one of the elite sprinters in the men’s list.
This event marks an important opportunity for both Maltese athletes as they test themselves against Europe’s best on the indoor stage after an encouraging start to the season. At the recent Winter Championships, which was characterised by unfavourable conditions, both athletes ran the distance. Grillo won the men’s race, setting a new personal best in the final, clocking 6.84 seconds. In the women’s race, Parnis took second place, with a time of 7.77, justs 0.02 behind Claire Azzopardi. Coleiro had set a new Under 18 and Under 20 national record of 7.70 in this event earlier this year while competing in London.
The pair are accompanied by coach Rachid Chouhal. The Maltese delegation is supported by Sport Malta and the Malta Olympic Committee.
