Malta’s top sprinter, Beppe Grillo, wrapped up his 2025 indoor athletics season with a strong showing at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. Competing against some of the world’s fastest athletes, Grillo clocked a time of 6.87 seconds in the 60m sprint, finishing 42nd out of 58 competitors.
The World Championships marked the end of a busy and successful indoor season for Grillo, who delivered standout performances on the European stage. Earlier in the year, he competed at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in the Netherlands, where he recorded a personal best of 6.83 seconds in the 60m event.
Grillo’s performances on the distance were consistent throughout the earlier months of the year, with the young athlete having secured top spot in Malta’s Winter Championships with a time of 6.86s.
With the indoor season concluded, attention now turns to the upcoming outdoor competitions, with a busy local and international schedule in the months ahead.
Grillo was accompanied by coach Steve Camilleri in Nanjing.
The Maltese contingent’s presence in these World Championships was supported by SportsMalta, the Malta Olympic Committee and the Consulate General of Malta in Shanghai, who provided logistical support to the delegation.
